DIY Home Decor on a Budget.

The meaning of thrifty: (of a person or their behavior) using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully.

So my husband and I are both college students and keep to a tight budget. We live in a small apartment and don't have too much wiggle room when it comes to decorating our place. We might just be way overly frugal and put all of our money into savings! So I decided to do some decor bit by bit without spending too much money at once. I also wanted to do as much of it myself to save a few extra dollars. With that in mind I have one project to show you that I did, one that I started, and show a few ideas that I want to eventually do.

Colorful Glass Cylinders

With a small budget in mind, I set off for the one place I knew I could get a few items for way cheap, the Dollar Tree! I bought 2 tall glass vases for $1 each. I then went to my local craft store and picked up some black ribbon and coral paint for maybe $2-$3 more. I then poured the paint into the glass vase and painted the inside to make the clear vase now a coral color to match my bedroom. I then cut the ribbon to the length I wanted and tied a ribbon around the vase. These were super easy to make and you can choose any colors you want! It is amazing how just a bit of color in a room can make such a difference.

Bookcase Makeover

I was given a huge bookcase for free when my husband and I moved into an apartment a while back. Turned out they didn't want to take it along so they gave it to us. It is a plain black bookcase and was lacking in color. So I decided to give it a makeover and add some color to it. I started painting the shelves, which I still need to finish. I then am going to pick out some colorful scrap booking paper and glue it to the back wall of the bookcase. I haven't got too far with this project yet but I can't wait until I finish it. I'm hoping it turns out pretty good!

My very cluttered bookcase!
This is where I got my inspiration.
